--------

Formed in early 2015, Help Me Helen has evolved from a side solo project from Charlottesville singer-songwriter Debra Guy to an "intense and cathartic pop folk quartet," including Drew Pompano, Zachary Bullock, and Kelly Kroese. The first of two upcoming releases, "Side A" is a five-song record, the first half of their debut full-length album. Not unlike a traditional vinyl recording, "Side A" is full of catchy, driving tunes with honest lyrics and infectious grooves."

about

Help Me Helen Charlottesville, Virginia

“If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” – Rudyard Kipling
Debra Guy is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller.

“I’m an over-sharer by nature,” says Guy. “Our stories are our legacy. I lost my father when I was eleven and my mother just a few years ago. I’m telling my stories, but I’m also telling their stories.”

Track Name: Compass
You say that I’ve been falling down on the job
Wasting too much time

If you were here now you’d tell me to step it up
I can go anywhere I want

Point me in the right direction
I can take it from there

I’m breaking down the reasons I’m always lost
Always turned around

Never know which way is down or is up
Always waiting to be found

Point me in the right direction
I can take it from there
Track Name: High Street
Well I've finally found my way home
I've been looking all the while
Searching under every stone
It was here all this time

And I love you
But I've got to leave
And I promise
I will see you again

Somewhere on High Street or maybe Cedar
Where the churches are sprinkled
like the raindrops on my windshield
Somewhere on Bruce or maybe Dogwood
Where I left my childhood
Out on the curb when I was 12 years old
Back when I did what I was told

I came here on my own
No one asked me to drive
Everything's the same
Cold and frozen in time

And I love you
But I've got to leave
And I promise
I will see you again

Somewhere on High Street or maybe Cedar
Where the churches are sprinkled
like the raindrops on my windshield
Somewhere on Bruce or maybe Dogwood
Where I left my childhood
Out on the curb when I was 12 years old
Back when I did what I was told

And I wonder why I don’t visit more often
Maybe it’s the memories that haunt me
That keep me away
Most of my days

And I come here to see my father
Where I left him in the ground
And I tell him all about my little girl

And I love you
But I've got to leave
And I promise
I will see you again

Somewhere on High Street or maybe Cedar
Where the churches are sprinkled
like the raindrops on my windshield
Somewhere on Bruce or maybe Dogwood
Where I left my childhood
Out on the curb when I was 12 years old
Back when I did what I was told
Track Name: Catch My Breath
I went out to Chicago
You were the last to know
Such a lovely trip I planned
You begged me not to go

You never wanted to see the pictures
You never wanted to see the pictures

I got married on the beach
Eloped at the start of March
I called you right after
I said my vows

You didn’t answer the phone
You didn’t answer the phone

All the words left unsaid
All hurt feelings buried instead
I can hardly catch my breath
Now that you’re gone

Then the visits stopped coming
The drive seemed so long
It was only a matter of time
You stopped asking on the phone

When are you coming home?
When are you coming home?

All the words left unsaid
All hurt feelings buried instead
I can hardly catch my breath
Now that you’re gone

I went out to California
Played the big stage in DC
With my heart beating in my throat
I remember what you said to me

Keep chasing the dream, babe.
Keep chasing the dream.

All the words left unsaid
All hurt feelings buried instead
I can hardly catch my breath
Now that you’re gone
Track Name: When You Come Looking For Me
Sippin’ coffee on my back deck
On a mountain ridge watching the sunset
Holding hands on the courthouse steps
On a Monday afternoon

That’s where I’ll be
When you come looking for me

On a porch swing in Starr Hill
Drinking whiskey on ice
Trading stories and wiping tears
Til well after midnight

That’s where I’ll be
When you come looking for me

No, I won’t be crying alone
You’ll take my hand and walk me home
See right through me when my cover’s blown
And I’m feeling down

Reading stories at bedtime
Lean over while I turn out the light
Thanking my lucky stars
I made it this far

That’s where I’ll be
When you come looking for me
Oh, That’s where I’ll be
When you come looking for me
Track Name: Shelter
I don’t mind
Being your shelter in the storm
But sometimes
You have to go outside
The rain, the rain is good for you
The pain, oh it’ll make you stronger inside
Inside

I’ll always be the one
That you can run to
To hide
I will always say
It’ll be okay
Even if it’s a lie

I will
Be there for you when you fall
Cause I know what it’s like
Yes, I know what it’s like
To hit the ground
Bleary eyes look up
To see no one around
To help pick up the pieces

I’ll always be the one
That you can run to
To hide
I will always say
It’ll be okay
Even if it’s a lie

You’ll need me
Even though you’ll tell me
One day
To leave you alone
I’ll give you room
I’ll give you space
To fly away
To fly

I’ll always be the one
That you can run to
To hide
I will always say
It’ll be okay
Even if it’s a lie
I don’t mind
Being your shelter in the storm
But sometimes
You have to go outside
